Apple Gourds...the process

The gourds got moldy while they were getting rid of the moisture inside.  Now that they are light in weight, it's time to scrub off the mold.  I used a wire brush and a metal scrubbie for kitchen pots.  The metal scrubbie seems to work best used with water and a very small amount of bleach to kill the mold.  You can see they look brown when they are finished.  I ordered the Gourd Paint online.  We'll see how it works...and I'll let you know!

Cider Syrup

So, everyone seems to have that part of the cider jug that doesn't get consumed.  It's in the back of the fridge....you are looking for something different...now's the time to try making syrup out of it.
Before it goes bad, just put it in a pot on the stove.
Cook it down to a quarter of what you started with.
Now you have a product that will keep in your refrigerator a while longer AND it's great for cooking vegetables, adding in to pies or coating up your favorite meat.  Donna emailed me that she uses it with Pork Chops.
Either way, it's something you can try with any amount you have left.
Have fun!
